My favorite vase of all time was a gift from my now deceased baby brother, Michael. Sadly, it was destroyed in the 2006 earthquake that struck the Big Island . It was a very tall, elegant, rectangular vessel of irregular vertical textures in a white bisque porcelain, glazed on the inside. I wish I had a photo of it! This stunning Venezia Lounge Chair was designed by Adam Tihany for the Pace Collection, and  manufactured in Italy by I4 Mariani. Its frame is constructed of polished solid mahogany woods with a gloss finish. The arms feature the strong use of solid carved wood with a refined crossed motif and striking mid-century modern design. The seat and back cushions are loose polyurethane foam bound with polyester fibers, upholstered in a cream fabric. The distinctive back of the chair is of cream colored leather decorated with corset lacing.  Views of my Venezia chair, including the stunning leather laced back, are also found here and here . Custom made in 1982, and faithful to the 18th Century Georgian III design, this stately breakfront cabinet offers both storage and display capabilities. The lower cabinet is raised on a plinth base, and features eight individual drawers that flank either side of two molded center doors with flame mahogany panels. Behind these doors is a large two-shelf space to hold larger, taller items.  The upper cabinet offers glazed, beveled glass doors below a dentil frieze cornice topped with the third piece, a removable  broken pediment. Glass shelves in the top section display books, collectibles and/or valuable dinnerware, under dimmable lighting.  This is a superb replica of English Georgian furniture, with authentic presence and proportions. My very first purchase of a new piece of furniture, in the early 1970s, was a Bentwood Rocking Chair based on the design of  Michael Thonet . Over the years, I continue to love the look, and the experience of balancing on it while reading or hanging out. Pablo Picasso enjoyed balancing in his bentwood rocker as well: My vintage 1970s era Bentwood rocking chair (with the characteristic carved curved legs with woven cane back rest and seat all in natural wood tones) looks like these, although the bottom seat was damaged and has been 80% re-caned.  For my 40th birthday, Peter bought me another sculptural rocking chair, of bentwood oak laminate.  This 1960s Tendo Mokko (Japan) Heron high back rocking chair was designed by Mitsumasa Sugasawa. Of bentwood oak with original structure that is very strong and original upholstery that is damaged with a slash on the chair back, this chair is ready to be reupholstered.
